Proposed Options

As we understand it, the city is considering 2 options. Both options would improve safety for pedestrians, bicycles, and drivers on Grand Avenue through Adams Point compared to the existing street, while Option 2 would also prioritize a vibrant commercial corridor with even more safety improvements.

Option 1 summary - Preferred by City Staff

Reduces Grand Ave traffic from 5 lanes to 4 resulting in:

West bound:  protected bike lane, parking lane, 1 lane of vehicle traffic
Middle: turn lane
East bound:  protected bike lane, parking lane, 2 lanes of vehicle traffic

This option prioritizes evening rush hour commuters looking to cut through Adams Point to avoid Highway 580 by providing two lanes of traffic traveling east on Grand Avenue.

Option 2 summary - Creates a safer and more vibrant Adams Point

Reduces Grand Ave traffic from 5 lanes to 3 resulting in:

West bound:  protected bike lane, parking lane, 1 lane of vehicle traffic
Middle: turn lane
East bound:  protected bike lane, parking lane, 1 lane of vehicle traffic

This option, when compared to Option 1, would improve traffic safety, reduce air and noise pollution, increase parking, and help create a thriving commercial corridor in the neighborhood by providing only one lane in each direction on Grand Avenue through Adams Point.
