Repaving Grand Avenue in the Adams Point Neighborhood

Oakland’s Department of Transportation is getting ready to create a safer and calmer Grand Avenue from Broadway to Mandana Boulevard in 2026 through its repaving plan.

On May 12th at 6:00 p.m., representatives from the City will discuss the two options with the Adams Point Neighborhood Group at St. Paul's Episcopal School.

This meeting will allow City Staff to describe two options the City is considering, with focused questions pre-selected from neighbors to ensure a Grand Ave that creates a vibrant Adams Point.

Both options would improve safety for pedestrians, bicycles, and drivers on Grand Avenue through Adams Point compared to the existing street, while Option 2 would also prioritize a vibrant commercial corridor with even more safety improvements.

Option (Alternative) 1 - Preferred by City Staff

This option prioritizes evening rush hour commuters looking to cut through Adams Point to avoid Highway 580 by providing two lanes of traffic traveling east on Grand Avenue.

Option (Alternative) 2 - Creates a safer and more vibrant Adams Point

This option, when compared to Option 1, would improve traffic safety, reduce air and noise pollution, and help create a thriving commercial corridor in the neighborhood by providing only one lane in each direction on Grand Avenue through Adams Point.

Please add your questions or comments you’d like addressed at the meeting here.
